2026 UK Student Visa: Complete Guide

UK Student Visa Application Process

Obtaining the correct visa status is your first priority. Most students planning to study in the UK will need a Student Visa or Child Student Visa.

Step 1: Get Your CAS

Before submitting your visa application, you must first obtain a CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) issued by your UK school. This is an electronic document containing a unique reference number.

Note: A CAS is valid for 6 months and can only be used once. Make sure your personal details, tuition fees and deposit paid are all correct.

Step 2: Prepare Core Documents

Document accuracy is key to approval. In addition to basic ID, you need a TB test certificate, financial evidence (funds held for 28 days), parental consent, and academic proof.

Note: Due to the applicant's age requirements, a signed parental consent letter supporting the child's study and accommodation arrangements is mandatory.

Step 3: Complete Online Application & Pay Fees

Go to the UK Government website (GOV.UK) to fill in the application form. At this stage, you will need to pay the visa application fee and the IHS healthcare surcharge.

Note: After paying the IHS, students can access NHS services during their time in the UK.

Step 4: Book Biometric Appointment

After completing the online application, book an appointment at a Visa Application Centre (VFS Global) for your photo and fingerprints.

Note: Standard processing usually takes about 3 weeks. If time is tight, a Priority Service is available.
